Screened - In Deck and Outdoor Living Space Extension
Set on a large property in Ambler, this outdoor living expansion was designed to feel as though it had always belonged to the home. The project included a screened-in deck, a generous open-air platform, and a lower-level walkway — each element carefully woven into the existing architecture. The objective was not simply to add square footage, but to carry the home’s architectural language outward. Rooflines, materials, and proportions were studied in detail during design so every new component aligned naturally with the existing residence. Once complete, the transition felt seamless rather than appended.

Design Approach
One of the defining features is the cathedral ceiling. It immediately elevates the room, creating height and presence that prevents the covered area from feeling confined.Â
For the first time at Next Level Remodeling, we used the decking material to fabricate custom box beams overhead. Though decorative, they introduce warmth and dimension while visually anchoring the ceiling plane.
Symmetry guided the layout. The design mirrors itself along a central axis, establishing balance that’s apparent the moment you enter.
Architectural Details
The oversized triangular screen frames were custom-built from solid black PVC — not painted. We sourced one of the only manufacturers in the United States producing 100% black vinyl PVC, ensuring long-term color consistency and durability.Â
Lighting and Comfort
PVC crown molding traces the perimeter and conceals an integrated LED channel. In the evening, cove lighting gently washes the ceiling, accentuating architectural features without overwhelming the atmosphere.Â
At the center, the homeowner selected a 1,200 CFM outdoor-rated fan. On warmer days, it delivers substantial airflow, allowing the family to enjoy the area comfortably even during peak summer temperatures. To minimize insects, screening was installed both around the enclosure and beneath the deck framing, preventing pests from entering from below.

Extended Outdoor Living
Beyond the covered area, the main deck functions as a flexible gathering zone. The homeowners wanted room for children to move freely, dedicated grilling space, and comfortable areas for hosting.
Low-maintenance aluminum railings were paired with a wide drink rail that doubles as a resting surface during gatherings. Integrated lighting beneath the rail runs along the perimeter, producing a subtle nighttime glow that enhances both safety and ambiance.
At ground level, stamped concrete in a charcoal finish provides durability with a traditional pattern that complements the residence and surrounding landscape without competing visually.
The Result
This Ambler outdoor retreat serves as both a sheltered living area and dining destination, while the open deck offer versatility for daily life and entertaining. Most importantly, the finished project feels cohesive. The rooflines echo the existing architecture, materials align with the home’s finishes, and every detail works together with intention.Â
